ATEM TVS HD, plus Epiphan X2. Have one scaler, a couple of cheap small screens, BMD video assist for recording and a touchscreen laptop for setting up. I do need to put them in a proper flight case, the neat-ness of the Pearl Mini is very appealing.
I'm just setting up the AV.IO 4k and Wirecast... We'll see how it goes :-)
Getting this bad boy in today and this was the first tutorial I spotted. Freaking perfect man! Thank you for this!
@@photojoseph Yeah man still useful! And this bad boy is up and running super fast thanks to you!
@@EdiverseAI in don’t and mine is still in a shipping box from the move, sorry!
Awesome! It’s an older video but still very valid. Glad you found it!
Thank you for making this video
selling my pearl mini for 75% of actual price (4.3k EUR). You can contact me via my homepage or by commenting here.
Thanks man! The tech I was to shadow for a show tomorrow using the Mini cancelled and thanks to you I'm not stressing about running it on my own now. :D
Great video Joseph! Thanks for sharing!
Can you used your phone camera 🎥
Sort of. If you get an HDMI adapter and an app that outputs a clean picture, then yes. But you don’t buy this level of streaming hardware to just stream from a phone.
Hey there...do you think we can use the Pearl mini with a switcher like Atem pro and send the feed to Utube?
If you want to use camera inputs on the Pearl as well as inputs on the ATEM, then you put the ATEM into one of the Pearl inputs, build a layout using the ATEM, and select that on the Pearl when you’re using the ATEM. Then when you want to switch to a camera connected directly to the Pearl, you change layouts in the Pearl. Pretty straightforward although it can get confusing if you’re mixing live. Any delay you may have seen here would have been my fault in configuring things… there’s no inherent delay in the ATEM or the Pearl.
@@photojoseph how do you use the pearl as a additional ptz camera...plus i notice on the atem a audio sync delay
Absolutely. In fact that's what I do. I use the ATEM Mini or full size ATEM to switch a live show, and feed the Program output from the ATEM into the Pearl. Then you can scale and stream to multiple destinations from the Pearl if you need to.
So you need a computer to set up. Can this be a window 10PC
Also can you just have an internet connection between the computer and pearl mini or do you need a network configuration.
Very useful tutorial.
No, you were not wrong (minute 3 of this video). You can actually use the USB A or B ports to hook-up a webcam and make it fully functional as additional non-HDMI video and audio inputs.
PhotoJoseph, thank you for your tutorial. I bought a Pearl Mini from your link after listening to your review. Quick question, when I take the HDMI out signal from Pearl mini and put it through my BM Mini Express capture card to get into my Mac in order to zoom the mixed production as a webcam for Zoom it doesn't recognize it. Do you know why? Interestingly, it doesn't recognize it when I take into my Shogun either. The HDMI out from Pearl Mini is good for monitoring but somewhat not recognized by my Shogun or MacBP through BM Capture card. Strange!
I’m not surprised 720p doesn’t work but 1080p24 certainly should. Try 1080p29.97 (as generic as it gets) and see what happens.
@@photojoseph Thanks for your reply PJ. Yes, I can see it when I plug it into a TV Monitor via HDMI out. But When I plug it into my Shogun or Ninja V, or even if I plug it into BM Recorder Mini Express there's no signal at all (black screen!) So, strange that the TV monitor can see it but the same plug the image is not recognized in the other ones. I've had it at 720 60p, or 1080 24p with the same results. It's encoded with .H264. It's very strange. I haven't been able to figure it out.
That's really weird. You said it's good for monitoring; does that mean that it works if you just plug it into a TV/monitor, but it does NOT when you connect to the Shogun or BM capture card? What frame size/rate are you outputting?
Does the switching function consist of hard cuts only? Any Dissolves?
It’s been a while since I used this but I’m pretty sure it was only hard cuts. But they are always adding new features so definitely check with the company
It has not gotten to African countries
Will B&H ship there? I think so…
this the best tutorial ever came accross.
Thanks! Be sure to subscribe… I’ll be working on another one soon to include the latest updates.
Thank you for this interesting show! Does anybody know a compatible tally light system for the pearl mini?
The Pearl Mini does not have full blown scalers on the inputs. It will not accept any 4K formats on the SDI in, for example.
Thanks for the extensive review. I'm actually rewatching this series.
@@photojoseph Blackmagic makes an inexpensive SDI-HDMI converter that is bidirectional, but if you need to drop 4K to HD, the device linked below will do it. I agree, Blackmagic does not make this capability especially clear in their description, but when I got into a mess after buying an ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K trying to feed the SDI output to a Pearl Mini, Blackmagic tech support told me that this was the least expensive way to drop the resolution down to 1080p required by the Pearl Mini, though I had to go in through the HDMI, not the SDI input as I originally intended. Now I own 5 of these, the most recent purchased to feed an ATEM Mini I am using downstream of my 4K system, the ATEM Mini dedicated to running Zoom meetings and webinars.

Whoah! I had no idea there was a new Decimator (this is what happens when NAB is cancelled). Thanks for that. But on your use of the BMD 6G miniconverters… those are just HDMI to SDI or SDI to HDMI converters, not HD to UHD or UHD to HD scalers, aren’t they? I just went through the web page trying to figure out which one you must be using and couldn’t figure it out. But you said you’re doing it… which one(s) are you using specifically?
@@photojoseph Here's the 12G Decimator. It was announced a long time ago, and I basically gave up they would ship. But it became available just recently. I had an alert set to notify when available at B&H, but by time they shipped, I had bought a ton of the Blackmagic SDI to HDMI 6G MiniConverters, which are not as capable, but a lot less expensive.

@@photojoseph Decimator's 4K product is now shipping -- I got an "in stock" email from B&H. The cheapest 4K-to-HD scaler that I know of is Blackmagic's SDI-HDMI 6G MiniConverter. I've got about 5 of them in my 4K workflow. The most recent was purchased to fit upstream of an ATEM Mini in order to drop 4K SDI down to 1080p for input into the ATEM Mini, which I used to host a 2-day Zoom webinar recently.
Hey Danny, thanks for becoming a member! Because of that this comment that I missed was brought back to the top… There's no such thing as a "full blown scaler". Scalers convert specific formats to specific formats, but to my knowledge, nothing can handle anything. The Pearl-2 does actually have 4K inputs, but that's a more expensive device. To make a frame of reference, Blackmagic makes scalers that go up/down to/from 4K, and they are very expensive. My favorite scaling product, the Decimator, STILL does not have a 4K product, which kills me! Scaling is not trivial; at least doing it well is not trivial.
Can you make a video on the new jvc gy-hm200sp camcorder or jvc gy-hm250sp camcorder please if possible
What is the latency on input to output for live use?
Zero
Awesome piece of kit. Thanks for the tutorial!
