Epiphan Webcaster X1 for Facebook & YouTube live streaming

Photo Moment - December 05, 2016

The Webcaster is a dedicated hardware streaming device for just $299 and I have very high hopes and expectations for this, for reasons I illustrate in the video. This is NOT a paid placement — Epiphan shipped these to me for review by my request however I am not being compensated in any way and I expect to return these (or purchase them) at the end of my testing.

Hi Joseph, are you by any chance reviewing the epiphan Webcaster x2?
+Nogales TV I'll ask them again
Hi Mr Joseph! Thank you so much for your videos!!!! They are are awesome. I have subscribed and liked your channels so I am not randomly speaking lol. I have a question about FB live. I'd like to go FB live with my Nikon D800 with a radio show. How can I do that if the epiphan doesn't work too well for audio? My audio HAS to sound right...what are some of your suggestions high end and low end? Primarily I would to go live and record what we do so I can edit later. Thank you so much your reviews and time you spend on your vids. It's appreciated.

+Randall Pike I’ll address your question LIVE right here https://youtu.be/cO2j8nw-Dt0 on PhotoJoseph‘s Photo Moment 2017-03-27
Nie video! Can I run a down-res'd 4K signal from my GH4's HDMI, and multi channel audio from a mixer (using the Panasonic YAGH base unit) to stream 1080p with embedded audio to YouTube? Also, are there sync issues that need to be resolved externally?
Awesome, Thank you!
Hey sorry this response went into spam for some reason so I didn't see it before answering your question on today's show. I think I got everything you needed except for the X1 — I will address that again tomorrow. Don't buy one yet.
+Ben McCartney That's great info. Tell me more… what frame rate are you set to (and why if there's a reason for that)? Are you trying to use the YAGH's SDI ports? What is your streaming solution? Are you mixing multiple sources (camera, computer, etc.)?
Awesome! I've had quite the experience, as you said, trying to get high quality video and audio to livestream! It really is very complicated. If it helps in any way, I'm using a GH4, analog mixer (multiple tracks summed to stereo out, and the YAGH to blend the signals to a single HDMI. I also purchased an old Rane AD22d audio delay unit to fix sync issues if needed. I was trying to use the Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K for this, but it does not cooperate with the Panasonic (and is very loud). Cheers!
+Ben McCartney That's a big and great question. Let me address this in a show this week. Probably Wednesday.
Love your videos! Maybe throwing a little close-up camera in there would be great to get a close look at the products. Just a minor thought - keep up the excellent content!
+iamjohnbarker thanks! I often have a second camera… didn't this time. Check out the latest video on the BMD Micro Studio camera… I use it there.
This video is flawless!
+Michael Suyeyoshi Ha, thanks!! Quite the complement ;-)
Have you tried streaming with OBS? I hear some pros use it because its simple and reliable even though its free. By the way, I assume this isnt shot with the Blackmagic Micro sutdio is it? I watched the video about it and you were thinking of switching soon, just wondering if its happening.
I have not tried OBS, no. I do keep hearing about it. I should try it but the next trial is these Webcasters, and if they work, I'll be paying for them and hopefully being done with this nightmare!! And no, I haven't hooked up the micro studio camera yet. I had to order new SDI cables which should arrive today, and hopefully will be on that by tomorrow!
If you guys want to know anything specific about the Webcasters, be sure to let me know!
+PBFClive And you're now the third to tell me this. Clearly a broken product is shipping. They've been telling me for weeks they are working on it. So far, nothing.
did you ever figure it out? I just purchased the x1 for facebook but having the same problem. no sound
Hey, i brought the webcaster for youtube and i am getting no audio on my livestreams. I could see the video but absolutely no audio. Any idea on what's wrong?
