00:00          The October 2018 firmware updates for the panasonic lumix GH5, the GH5S and the G9 have just been released. Let's take a look at how to install them.

00:15          I'm going to show you how to update the Lumix G9, but of course the process is exactly the same for all three of these cameras and the links to where to get these downloads are all below. So let's get started with the G9, and the first thing you're going to need is a memory card. Go ahead and pop that in and reformat it. Open the menu and go to the wrench menu. And on the last page five of five select format. Notice that you do have to have a card in slot one not in slot two to do the firmware update, go ahead and erase that card and it's ready to go. Next, we need to download that firmware update, so go ahead and put the card into your computer and navigate to the appropriate page. Linked below. I'm updating the jeannine camera and you'll notice at the time of this recording it's still says that the firmware update is to be released, however it actually has been released already.

00:58          If you scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on firmware download, that'll take you to a new page where you can actually access all the individual downloads. Incidentally, while you're here, you should check out if there are any other updates for any of your lenses are other cameras you might have available as well. Here's the G9 listed under the G series version one point two with a date of 2018 October 23rd. Click on the link that says click to the download page. That'll open up a new window, so if you don't see anything pop up, you may have a popup blocker installed. Go ahead and click on download right here. Once the download has completed, locate the downloaded file, open the SD card, and copied the .bin file directly to the root level of the memory card. Don't extract the file. If you double click on a .Bin, your computer may extract it, but that's not what you want. Leave it as a .Bin file and copy that to the root level of the SD card. Once that's copied, eject your card and put that back into your G9. If the camera was still on, go ahead and power it off and then power it back on again and press the play button on the back of the camera.

02:08          The camera will immediately find that there's a new version of the firmware on the card. The prompts says “start version up”, tap or select yes, and away you go.

02:20          Once it's done, the camera will automatically reboot. To check the version number, go back into the menu and scroll up to page three of five. At the bottom of that, you'll see the version display. Click on that and it'll show the body firmware and the Lens firmware, and that's all there is to it. Pretty straightforward, and don't forget if you already have some other lenses or camera bodies, make sure that they're up to date as well. Just look each one up on that webpage and see if there's any firmware updates available for those. Also, if you're new to the channel, make sure you subscribe and hit that bell.
