Brill vid, Joseph. DxO is the coolest. You must have espn....I saw one of your older vids where you stated "You'll probably need an M3 Mac, or something". Yup, that's the deal! I'm jumping M2 to hit up M3 later this year. More power for PL fun. Cheers.
LOL where did I say “M3 Mac”?! That’s funny. Must have been a live show where I say the wildest sh** 😂
Hi Joseph. In your capacity of a DxO ambassador maybe you can give me your take on why DxO's support is one of the lowest ranking on Trustpilot. This surprises and disappoints me when I think of the general software quality and the clever marketing. The reason for finding the "two stars" on Trustpilot was this: As a user of PureRAW 2 I had found a workaround - by "conveting" the DxO DNG with the Adobe DNG Converter! - to solve a couple of problems I had with "not supported software" and in the way colors were rendered in Adobe Bridge compared to ACR (when using ARW raw files). But - when I asked support if they were interested in those phenomenons, the reaction was surprisingly slow and the attitude was evasive.
My question is: Why are so many people having a bad experience with DxO's support? - as if this part of the service is totally disconnected from the level of development and marketing.

@@photojoseph Thank you.
@@Eigil_Skovgaard I have brought up the support issue before. There’s nothing else I can do. I will forward this conversation to them, as I always do.
@@photojoseph To get the right solutions, one of the ways could be that this ambassador relays all user feed back - to the core management of DxO. We all gain from improvements. Regarding the less than two stars on Trustpilot we are not talking about rumors, the low rating is starring us in the face - peculiar and unexplained. Of course Trustpilot could be corrupt, I don't exclude that possibility for a second.
Hey there, thanks for the note. I don't know why their support isn't top-notch, but I have unfortunately heard that before. As to the DNG point, this isn't news; it's always been said that that is a workaround, however all it's doing is allowing you to open the file, but you're not getting any of the advantages of the DxO system, or at least not the right ones. Let's say you have a new S5II which isn't yet supported, but convert the RAW file to DNG and open it in a DxO app. The software will either apply a generic correction, or the S5 correction, but it won't have the correct correction. So yes it's a workaround, but it's not a solution. They probably didn't get excited by this because it's not a workflow they recommend, for the reasons stated above.
I've been having issues with deep prime and gh6 files. For some reason, I often find a green tint in the shadows. Would you know why or have you had similar issues?
Yes. I did that. We’ll see. The GH6 behaves very differently to all other Panasonic cameras.
interesting; I haven't sent any GH6 photos through Deep Prime. Definitely report this to DxO. GH6 is still a pretty new camera, and maybe they need to make some tweaks!
Much better results with DXO PureRaw !
I have always used DXO PhotoLab on images that are already in a folder on my hard drive (Via PhotoMechanic). Is it possible to download images from my SD card to my iMac directly in DXO PhotoLAB 6?? If so, How? If not, this feature would make the program a complete package.
No. It does not ingest. Finder copy is easiest; an app like Photo Mechanic is best.
Hi, you showed how there is a link between PhotoLab 6 and Photo Mechanic so you can change colour or star ratings between each application. Does PhotoLab 6 also recognise the crops that you do in Photo Mechanic? So far the only software that does it is Lightroom. I am using LR5 and would like to move to a non subscription application like PL6 but as an amateur sports photographer, I am a heavy user of PM6, so what something that can use all work I do in PM6.
Please confirm if one can use ViewPoint 4 within the PL6 space as a first step before applying other corrections (such as tonality/color). The reason I ask is that I have PL5 Elite and Nik4 (I'll upgrade these when the price drops to a reasonable upgrade level--DxO charges too much for upgrades, negating their advantage over Adobe's subscription model and the least they can do is cut the upgrade price to 50% of its current level to reward loyal customers!) and I've been frustrated that Perspective Efex (which I thought basically replaced ViewPoint, but apparently not) and the other Nik plug-ins can't handle RAW files (plus PE needs the original file to work). This is a pain, as a "normal" workflow would be to correct for perspective (e.g., what you could've achieved with a view camera or tilt/shift) and crop if necessary and then apply other editing. Ideally, DxO would do what Topaz has done with their IQ suite--combine their key tools into one program. The way it "should" work is that I open a RAW file in PL, apply ViewPoint if necessary, then any other editing (including Nik plug-ins) within the PL workspace, and then save as a TIFF or JPG for printing with no need to export to another workspace (except in cases such as where Topaz Photo AI may provide further enhancement). I don't think that's asking too much! Thanks for your explanations--you do help with the DxO learning curve and please pass the feedback to them (as I know it reflects the attitude of many users from what I've read in the forums). IMO, DxO's tools are superior to most of what's out there (and I recommend them all the time), but they're not cheap...
@@photojoseph Thanks (and for your patience--I know I go on a bit now and then). Clearly, VP4 does things Perspective Efex just can't and enables a better workflow.
too long of a question but the first part -- yes -- with both PL6 and VP4 installed, you have access to all VP4 features from within PL6 just like any other adjustment, so can be applied at any time, non-destructively.
I just uploaded the new PL6, but also with PL5 I have had problems with Deep Prime and now Deep Prime XD. I have Windows 10 and an AMD Radeon RX580 graphics card. I get a message from AMD in a box: "AMD Bug Report Tool: AMD software detected that a driver timeout has occurred on your system." I have driver 30.0 15021.11005 which is pretty upto date. Any suggestions?
I own a RX580 Series video card and DXO PL does not play well with it. When exporting files using it for Deep Prime rendering it often gives the AMD bug report, the card locks to 100% load and stays there. I can't remember all the details but DXO and AMD are both aware of the problem and nothing is done. If you look in the forums it is well documented by users including myself. Very frustrating.
I suggest talking to DxO tech support
Did they add Metadata presets now? Being able to add contact details is great, but not if we have to add it manually every shoot.
Unfortunately no… but please file a feature request!!
From another review, I heard that Fuji RAF files are again unsupported. This is very disappointing especially as it was only recent that RAF were supported. Have you any idea if this will be fixed in PhotoLab 6? Thanks.
@@photojoseph Thanks for the swift response. I suspect the X-Trans extra effort will mean a delay or next version likely at best but we'll see. Bonnes chances - ce'st le nuit en Frances!
Using Photolab 6 Elite, I've just tried to used DeepPRIME HD on RAW files from my X-Pro 1 and X-Pro 2 cameras and get a popup from the DPXD button that says my cameras aren't supported. DeepPRIME is available on the same images. V disappointing after the way that Elite was promoted as Fuji RAW friendly.
I use PL4 and can't wait to upgrade to PL6, but as a Canon user switching to Fuji XH2, I hear here and there that Photolab doesn't support Fuji raw files or Fuji-camera/EF lens combinations. Is that true? It would be sad to switch from Photolab to some other software
@@photojoseph having had a look at the supported cameras list, as far as I can see, it doesn't appear to have been updated beyond PhotoLab 5

As soon as I read about DXO Photolab going today on all FB photography groups. I directly searched for you because you are the best ambassador for DXO and the one who explains the best way about new features!
Every year, you are my go to for PL improvements. Always the most thorough and impressive presentation. Thank you.
