Aperture and Photomatix Plug Inn #1

I have tried to directly drag my bracketed photos after selecting them all in Aperture into Photomatix on my dock. But I keep getting a message that they are low res (5MB) files rather than original sized JPEGs. I can export them to my desktop as original jpegs and then into Photomatix and they work fine. I know I can right click and select the plugin but I have some presets uploaded in Photomatix but they do not show up in the Aperture plugin, and I tried I importing the presets off of my HD into the Aperture plugin of Photomatix, but the plugin won't accept them (they are xmp files). I just want to know if I'm missing something. My workaround is to export them to my desktop, but I'm trying to avoid the extra step if at all possible. Thanks.

Florian,

When you drag a photo out of the Aperture browser you are getting the preview file. The size of the file depends on the settings in Aperture Preferences. If you want to use that method and need the biggest file, you need to change that preference. If you do change it, you must force Aperture to regenerate the preview either by editing the image or holding down the option key while choosing the Generate Preview command.

The downside will be that large previews will bloat your library size.

If you don’t want to change the preview size, then exporting seems to be the best way to do what you want.

Thanks, Thomas. I’ll just stick with the export work-around since I do not do a whole lot of HDR
