Syncing issues regarding edits. #1

My set up -  an iPhone and iPad running iOS 8 and an aperture libuary with iCloud and photo streaming set up.

I can get Photos on my iPhone to syne to my iPad and mac(aperture) but have found that there are some inconsistencies on how images are deleted and edited. For instance I have found when editing a photo taken on my iPhone on the photos app the edit is not transferred to the iPad. Only the original photo will be shown. Then if I click edit on that photo on the iPad I get a message saying this photo is not editable and do you want to make a duplicate. From what I saw in the keynote I was led to believe that edits would be transferred to all IOS devices. This functionality doesn’t seem to be working at the minute. Would love to know if anybody else having similar issues or if it’s working for you guys?

Thanks Adam :)

Did you enable iCloud drive?

Yes I did.

I have been looking all over the internet and have found nothing about this issue.

Even Apple have nothing on their support site about Photos. They don’t even list the new Photos App on there support site for ios apps - http://www.apple.com/support/ios/

I was hoping that enabling iCloud Drive was the ticket. I haven’t enabled it yet because I’ve seen the warning (all over the internet) not to until Yosemite is released.

I’m seeing the same thing where an image edited on my iPhone still shows the original on my iPad.

Which devices do you use? According to the small prints on https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/continuity/ Continuity features are only available on iPhone 5 or later, iPad (4th generation), iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display, and iPod touch (5th generation).
I don’t have any of these, alas.

Missed that Martin! I have an iPad 3. So the syncing of edits in Photos is part of the Continuity features. Finally I can stop think I have something setup wrong. :)

If your devices are within specs even then there might be issues with Continuity. See http://m.imore.com/cant-get-continuity-calling-or-handoff-working-heres-fix. Regards, Martin

I have an iPhone, iPad, and Mac with Aperture. After upgrading the iPad to iOS 8, I’ve noticed some duplicate images on the iPad, some of which can’t be deleted (or edited). I’m not sure why, or how to eliminate the duplicates.

I don’t think the photo edit syncing is considered part of Continuity. It was advertised as part of the new Photos app in conjunction with iCloud Drive. Nevertheless, it ain’t working between iPad Air and iPhone 6 for me.

I think what you are seeing is the old Photos behavior with iCloud enabled. If you take a photo on one device and have iCloud enabled, the other devices will see it via iCloud. It will show up in the My Shared stream I think. Those do not include the edits you make on the original device that took the photo. And since they are in a stream on the other devices and you can only edit photos in your Camera Roll or other albums, iOS will ask you if you want to copy a stream photo into Camera Roll before allowing you to edit it.
