Can we use a Android phone as a external monitor for gh5
Gh5 have HDMI to MHL output for Android
Ha Joseph Good Stuff BUT The Dimming Problem is Still a Problem For me all the Settings are Turned OFF in The Economy Menu and and when i am out Doors Lite Conditions Don't Matter after a Few Sec Recording The LCD Screen Dims and then i can Hardly See if i am in Focus i Am Recording in 4K 8bit 60P if That Matters Thanks For any Help
Same for me
The Problem i Am Having is i am Using a Neewer 7'' Monitor i Get a Signal OK/Fine But i Can't Figure Out How To Get The PLAY BACK From My GH5 When i Push Play On The Monitor i Get a Pop That Says ( This Motion Image Can Not Be Played ) Whats Up With That Thanks for any Fix Thanks
This is the BIG Dimming-Problem!!!!!! Monitor Luminance (MODE1) is bright but... The monitor automatically returns to standard brightness if no operations are performed for 30 seconds when recording!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has happened to me and it is so annoying!!! How can this be fixed or is this a bug that just needs to be updated? Also, I can't get those small 4 white brackets in the middle of my screen to go away when using a manual lens. Any advice on how to fix that? Thanks for the input and assistance.
+Tyler Winnfield Actually I'm not going to do this in today's video, because I have no other good Q's to A today, and I don't really want to sit there pontificating while I wait for the camera to NOT shut down. So I'll record a video just for you and upload that separately. Stand by.
+Tyler Winnfield I’ll address your comment LIVE right here https://youtu.be/Jzu0vvZZnKw on PhotoJoseph‘s Photo Moment 2017-05-22
Hi I have the GH5 since 2 or 3 weeks ago, I had also problems with the monitor dimming, when I'm in the monitor brightness 1* the monitor dimmes down a little bit a couple minuts after no touching any button, and I have all the settings as you have shown. I don't know if there's anything wrong with my camera, I contacted with panasonic but whey send me the user manual and said me that I could search the solution for my own.
I would like to buy the V-log but I'm waiting because I don't want to buy it, install it and then realise that my camera is not ok and having to change it or something and lose the V-log and having to buy it again.
For us as well, after all the settings (which were already using) the monitor does continue to dim that also means we are switching out of auto LVF mode. Joseph, not sure if you actually has some other settings that are not expressed in this video. You said you tested it for several minutes which is plenty of time so im not sure why folks including myself are getting different results. Thanks Joseph for taking the time to do all you do, be blessed in all you put your hand to~ Frederick

less talking, more information, please
Not sure if this is something everybody knows/uses already, but I'll share in case that's not the case.

I've generated a "false color" LUT to be used for exposure control while shooting (that LUT needs to be set as display LUT in camera while shooting in VLog-L profile). Works like charm! :) https://www.dropbox.com/s/6a168znzgnqgbgu/Rec709fc.vlt?dl=0

PS. I've used LUTCalc (https://cameramanben.github.io/LUTCalc/) to generate it from "VLog-L to Rec709 LUT".
Great show. On the subject of buttons...does anyone find they accidentally depress the DISP button with their thumb?
+Malcolm Smith Yeah.
Do someone know if the GH5 shows the live view on a normal external monitor while recording internilly?? Because my Lumix G7 only shows a screen on the monitor, when its not recording
No, I wanted to see the live screen on an external monitor and it only shows the picture while Not Recording.. when i record, the external monitor says "video is recording" with black Background
Yes it does. The GH5 can simultaneously record internally and externally, so that Monitor/EVF never goes off. Surprised though that the G7 is turning off. YOu're saying when you connect something to the HDMI port, that the camera's monitor goes off?
First time commenting, but have been watching for some time. Unfortunately not dedicated enough to get up early and watch live, but I'm in Australia, so I feel like that's a pretty good excuse.

I've just been tweaking the live view settings as you've suggested here as I too was having issues with the screen dimming. Unfortunately it's still dimming, I'm wondering if there's some other setting I could be missing?
Just tried this and no cigar. I've just tried turning off sleep mode completely, still no good. So I currently have Sleep Mode: Off. Sleep Mode (wifi): Off. Auto LVF/Monitor off: Off. Power Save LVF Shooting: Off. I also have Monitor Luminance: 1* and tried cycling between LVF modes via Fn5 and had the same issue. I have just tried Monitor Luminance: A* and the dimming stopped. Flicked back to 1* and dimming returned. Hmmmm. A* is going to present its own set of challenges... thoughts?
+Driftwood Project And you mimicked my settings, huh? Try with monitor on LVF/MON AUTO as well as just the MONitor on.
I'll go through my monitoring settings today and get back to you with some more details.
Yeah unfortunately it's happening both while recording and on standby.
+Driftwood Project While recording?
I have been using my GH5 for about a month now and finally figured out most things and quite like it so far. However, there are 3 small issues I have and wanted to know if there was any way to show these? If not, I would like if Panasonic could add these to a future firmware update.

1. On 6K photo, the exposure meter is always at 0. I can't quite remember if it shows exposure before recording, but during recording its always at 0 and I would like to see my exposure during recording. Is there a way to show this?

2. This is another exposure meter issue. On Focus transition mode, there is no exposure meter, so there is no way to know how much you are exposed, unless you set the exposure first, then switch to focus transition. I mostly shoot outdoors, so no controlled lighting and I like doing some focus pulls, so would find it important to see my exposure as the light could change easily. I don't know if there is a way of showing the exposure meter on this?

3. I don't use Auto ISO mode often since I want the least noise as possible, but there are times when it could be useful so would like a fix for this. When you set the ISO to Auto ISO you can't see which ISO the camera has set since it doesn't show any ISO on the screen, but it does when you choose an ISO. It would be very useful to know which ISO the camera chose. You can set ISO sensitivity so you the camera doesn't go under or over a certain ISO, but does the GH5 Auto ISO stay within those ISOs you set?

34:58: For T-Stop information (T-Stop is how much light leaves the back of the lens and get to the camera sensor). I don't rely on DXOMark tests, but on their site they do show T-Stops on lenses, they didn't test lenses with the GH4 or GH5, but I don't think the T-Stop will change from one camera to another.
Thanks so much for spending the time on your show to share my comments! Your pointers totally helped me! Thank you for always sharing such great content!
The Vacuum is going to have many frequencies far above 80hz.. Download an Audio RTA (real time analyzer) to your phone or ipad.. once you start the RTA, kick on the vacuum and SEE what audio frequencies it has... most likely it'll be all the way through the spectrum.. so probably no way to 'cut' it out completely.. Also, most laptop speakers don't have frequency response below 150hz anyway.. so if listeners were listening on a laptop or phone.. they wouldn't have heard any change! Your IEM's do, so you heard the change.
Will do!
ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/accessory/camera/om/dmw-xlr1_mul_om.pdf Page 8. Two separate mono inputs.. split stereo into separate XLR's before inputting into the camera.. then choose 1/2 switch for the stereo image.

Also, from what I understand, balanced stereo xlr cables are 5-pin cables.. From a 5-pin balanced xlr, use this adapter strait into xlr1:

From an 1/8" unbalanced stereo cable use this DI box for dual xlr into the xlr1:
