Thanks for your video. Can you record video on the camera GH5 memory and view a clean hdmi out to a hd tv or a projector/ external display monitor at the same time?
FYI you can not display the monitor if you're trying to record in 24p. So that's a bummer
To much talk
That’s Caleb Pike on DSLR Shooter
Yeah he rocks
Sup Joseph!
Hi Joseph, Great Show! My question is: how do you deal with the awful monitor lag on the GH5?... I have a 7" Lilliput "full" HD Monitor (expensive monitor) and the lag is AWFUL. Do you have a suggestion or experience with a monitor that does not have any lag?. There is zero lag on my old Panasonic AC-130 Broadcast Camcorder. Thanks for your reply!
+Tony Okun Oh that’s the video you’re commenting on. I answered that question here.
Does this cheap $50 monitor your presenting on this show lag?...I know other Gh5 owners have experienced monitor lag, I'm surprised no one has asked you about that, it is an issue with the Gh5, and I know the Lilliput lags for sure. Good to know the Atomos does not. Thanks for your reply.
+Tony Okun Honestly don’t know what you mean… my ATOMOS displays have no lag. I have no experience with the Lilliput.
Can i use this monitor with a panasonic G7?
I’ll address your comment LIVE right here https://youtu.be/H5zfLWv2u9I on PhotoJoseph‘s Photo Moment 2017-08-28
The Problem i Am Having is i am Using a Neewer 7'' Monitor i Get a Signal OK/Fine But i Can't Figure Out How To Get The PLAY BACK From My GH5 When i Push Play it Says This Motion Image Can Not Be Played Whats Up With That Thanks for any Fix Thanks
I am surprised if that need regular power supply, how could you use that outside the field?
+Makzibs Anil It's not designed for field use. Remember this is NOT meant for camera use. It's actually made for use in cars.
One other thought: If you put up a section graphic, (i.e. "Q&A Section") we can scroll the timeline and go right to the point where the graphic shows in the thumbnail. Make sense?
Leave the format, we can always stop the recorded show when we are done. For those not interested in Q&A, they can just move on. Less work for you. I would find it annoying to go to another show to catch the Q&A separately.
***** I guess I'm a "scrubber" on YouTubes, so length doesn't bother me too much. 😉 Always good to try new things and see what sticks to the wall!
I appreciate that, but part of the problem is when people see a video is 30 minutes long, they are less likely to even start watching it than if they see it's 10 or 15 minutes long. And we're making it easy… the thumbnail for the Q&A "commentary" section will be there at the end, so it's just one click. We're going to try it for a while and see how it goes. Today's show was largely entirely commentary so we didn't do it, but we will for tomorrow's. Oh crap, speaking of… what is tomorrow's show. Hmmm…
Firstly on the changing of format, it is up to you how you want to do it. I live in Australia and unless I get up in the middle of the night I am never going to see it live. I can't say that I have ever bothered skipping to the "start" of your show and watch all of your preshow still as it is often entertaining and can have some interesting stuff come up. I would say losing this would be a shame but may not miss it if it happened at the end/in a second video.

As for this video, I have been thinking of getting one of these super cheap monitors to use not so much for cameras but attaching other things to it but it is good to see one working and what seems to work with it. As it is a monitor I am thinking it is actually fairly logical that it would support taking a 60hz signal as that is the base speed most computer monitors will run at especially as this has a VGA input. I think I may have seen some cheap monitors like these but made to be mounted on a camera but they may be more expensive than the $50 you paid.

As for some of those settings mentioned when you were looking at the GX8 I am not sure if others have said. The 3D setting I would think is when you have used the 3d lens and so have 3d footage. The Viera Link would be to allow you to remotely control your camera via your TV remote control if you have a Panasonic TV but possibly others too.
Can't you use any tablet as a monitor??
I wish. At least with iPads, they can't act as a display. The port only allows video out, not video in. (Can't speak to Android tablets). Sure would be nice though!
PhotoJoseph, I think the best solution for this that is the least time intensive on your part would be to create timecode titles and leave in the description. For example, in this video, the title is about a HDMI Monitor but you don't talk about it for a while. So, just leave timecode to every important highlight in the show and people would go to areas of interest.
Joseph,
You're product is not information (the "meat of the show") as you put it. You're product is your personality AND the fact that you are doing it live. The live feel is a HUGE Part of the appeal. I wouldn't restructure your show to make it more editable for youtube...I also wouldn't shorten it for youtube either.

Focus everything on making the live show as entertaining as it could possibly be and then upload it in it's entirety later..or at least don't change it just to make cuts easier. It isn't going to hurt people who are watching later realize to realize there is a discussion they could be a part of.

I wouldn't try to straddle the fence. You have a gift for making compelling live content. 45 minutes is NOT too long for live content. Radio shows usually last 2-4 hours. What you are able to do is something most people can't and I think you should fully embrace it...instead of trying to produce 2 different distinct products.
No harm in trying it but I think you need to start to thinking of yourself like a talk radio host. The topic may be sports or politics, or whatever, but the personality of the talent is always the draw. There will always be "information" shows and your information is very good but it's your charisma and the feeling that "anything could happen" that makes your show appealing.

I watch most of your stuff in delay but part of the appeal to me is the feeling that I'm watching it live and you are really putting yourself out there. Obviously, the GH5 has been great for your channel but those other things (particularly your personality) is what is going to keep this thing going long after the GH5, 6, 7, etc are obsolete.
Thanks for the feedback. Definitely something to consider. I do feel like a lot of viewers may look at the topic, think "that sounds good" but then see that it's 30 or 45 minutes long and not even start it. I know I'm guilty of that myself. If I can split the show into two shorter parts and not sacrifice anything then I think it'll be a win-win. We'll see… I'm going to try it out and see what happens. This is all uncharted territory!
Another solution is to put timecodes to the "meat of the show" with clear indications of what you are discussing and let the "meat eaters" jump straight to their dinner while the rest of us enjoy the polite dinner conversation. ;-)
Love the plan for your show format. Check out some of Live Streaming Pros shows (found you through them at NAB!) - they follow a very similar format. And you can actually just trim the live stream after the fact on the SAME show/video (without creating a new one), but you would lose the preshow and any interaction after altogether. I'd be concerned that if you keep the full livestream AND create a separate trimmed version it might confuse folks or split traffic in ways you might not want.

Just my $0.02
Dangit where did my reply go… Let's try again. So the main show would be trimmed but stay in place, cutting off the pre-show (which would never be seen again… that's just for the LIVE viewers!), and sending the post show commentary to a new video file. Yes it could be confusing but hopefully with good thumbnails, titles and appropriate linking, confusion will be minimized. We shall see; we're all set to try tomorrow!
@PhotoJoseph Do you have any plans to visit Asia?
I've lived in South Korea since 2010, speak the language, traveled much of the country via bicycle (originally from California).
When the live chat started to focus on travel, I thought I might offer to be of assistance should you find yourself in Korea (tour guiding, translation, etc).
And if you happen to be in a nearby country for a workshop or anything, it could be an opportunity for me to take a short vacation and share a drink with you.

I'm starting a business in Korea this month related to the video and photography media production industries. I'd like to hear about your experiences in the industry so I may better tailor my services to meet the needs of these media companies.
Asia's a big place… anywhere specific? ;-) I don't have any travel plans but would love to. I was looking at flights to Singapore this morning just on a lark (blame the book Change Agent by Daniel Suarez), and Hong Kong is one of my favorite destinations in the world.
