Project1>New Smart Album>Add Rule>Aperture Metadata>Album Name>Is Empty (results in 3 images)
When I add one of the three images from the smart album to Album1 (now has 8 and Smart album “should” have 2), it doesn’t remove it from Smart Album (leaves 3 images) unless I quit Aperture and relaunch. A bug or am I not understanding how a smart album should work?

I’ve seen the same thing when working with Album Name criteria. I found that toggling the criteria on and off will kick in a refresh.
Smells like a bug to me.

Thanks. That’s what I’ve discovered too after trial and error. Creating the smart album listed in my OP and then checking/unchecking the criteria box refreshes it. Kind of tedious, but is a workaround.
