So, this is not specifically an Aperture issue, but more a general problem I am encountering ever since the latest software update .
First off I'm running OSx 10.7.3 on an iMac. 2.93 ghz i7 with 16 gb ram. Early 2011 model.
Since I did the software update which was at the weekend just gone, I have had the situation where I have got the message that I need to turn off the computer (if you have not ever had this before, it's a bit freaky like a curtain coming down at the theatre). This has happened twice in the last 24 hrs. Not terribly encouraging. That's problem 1.
Now in Aperture I am finding that if I edit an image, open it in an external editor and save it (usually Nik Silver Efex) nothing is there when I go back to Aperture. hmm. This is an inconsistent problem and does not happen each and every time.
Problem 3. Due to problem 2, I decided to edit in Photoshop, again using the Nik plugins (this time Viveza). Applied all my settings and then tried to save, but again, nothing happened.
So, I am wondering if the recent “upgrade” has done something funky to the Nik software? Would it be worth my while uninstalling all the Nik plugins and reinstalling?
This is my 4th mac and the first time I have ever really experienced this sort of weird stuff happening. Today I could cheerfully throw the darned machine out of the window :)
Anybody else had problems?
Sarah,
I haven’t personally seen any new issues since the recent software update.
Are your masters by chance on an external drive? The round-tripping errors could be due to permissions problems on the drive, which I’ve heard of getting tweaked during a software update before.
If it’s an external drive, select it in the Finder and Get Info, and ensure that “Ignore ownership on this volume” is enabled [screenshot]. Then see if your round-tripping problems go away.
As far as the kernel panic crash, I think that’s unrelated. I’d start with basic system maintenance… boot into Recovery mode, and run repairs from there (see this article for info on how to do that).
keep us posted,

Thanks Joseph, I will have a “play” this evening when I get home from work.
My images are referenced but stored on the actual hard drive.
