Macintosh HD listed as offline after HD upgrade and managed photos inaccessible #1

Hi everyone

I have been using Aperture for about three years. I'm brand new to this site though!

In the Aperture library I have built up is a mix of managed and referenced files (it was set to managed by default when I started using it, but now see the error of my ways :S)

I recently upgraded my HD. I backed up the Aperture library to a NAS and once I had upgraded the HD, moved the Aperture library back onto my machine - onto the new HD.

I'm now getting the common “original image offline” error when trying to export the old managed images (the referenced images are still in the library and are fine to access and export). All these images have the white box with red line icon in the bottom of each of the thumbnails.

I have read a lot about this error and tried the fixes I've seen - namely trying to mend the error using File > Locate Referenced Images, the dialog says the file is found but the status next to Macintosh HD says “offline”. I think this is because my files are managed and not referenced.

I can't fix the error by trying to locate the original files as they are all within the Aperture Library. When I examine the Package Contents of the Aperture Library, it only shows me some of the files from my library, not all of them. The files are not anywhere else to be seen on my HD when I search using Spotlight.

Is there a fix to allow me to get my managed files back and visible, available for me to export them as files? Is it something to do with the new UUID of the new disk (which I have read mentioned on this site) which Aperture doesn't understand?

I'd be really grateful for any help you can offer at this point - I hate having a problem I can't solve. I'm not particularly tech savvy though so if there is an easy opton over one that requires any database editing (as Jacques and Joseph have done) I'd rather go down that route as I'm not sure I trust myself with SQL.

Thanks so much
Jessica

Jessica,

Sorry for the delayed reply; I missed this one somehow.

This is disconcerting and you’re not the first to report offline managed Originals.

1. Have you tried database repair/rebuilds yet? In fact, do permissions first, as the copy to and from the NAS could have messed with permissions. FAQ

2. You said you copied the managed Library to your NAS, then back again. Is it still on the NAS? If you open that one, how does it look?

Jessica,

How is your NAS formatted - HFS+ ?
