I have master files, and then create versions to 'work' on. I used to have a 1 of x box in the top left hand corner of the thumbnail in the browser view. In the latest version of Aperture, that (very useful) function has disappeared. How do I switch it back on?

Those were stacks. The preference probably got reset in the upgrade.
If you want new versions to get created automatically, enable this: [screenshot]
If you want them to stack automatically, enable this: [screenshot]
