My new Macbook Pro should be here tomorrow. I’ll be migrating from a Powerbook G4 with Tiger. Apple told me this should be no problem. I hope so.
Anyway, I have some plug-ins I have for Aperture 2. Will they migrate over to the Macbook Pro when Aperture 2 is brought over? Also, will the Aperture 2 plugins work in Aperture 3? Have not seen anything about this. Has anybody had an issue with third party plug-ins?
Good question Scott. I haven’t looked at the 3rd party plugins yet except to see that they were all still in my menu. Your migration *should* handle that fine, but as with anything, your mileage may vary. Assuming you have the installers (or actually you can probably just re-download those if you need ‘em, so assuming you have the serial numbers handy), I wouldn’t worry about it.
Keep in mind that the third party companies may NOT have been privy to a beta. So don’t assume they’ve tested their software in Aperture 3 yet. Go to their site and see what they have to say—I’d assume they will have a statement by now on their compatibility with Aperture 3.

Migration went very well. All plug-ins came over without a hitch. I am now running Aperture 2 on my new Macbook Pro. I read were plug-ins will not run in Aperture 3’s 64-bit mode and you have to switch to 32-mode until they get updated.
However, I do have one issue. I put my photos into my own folder structure on my Powerbook’s hard drive. Because the name of the hard drive on the new laptop was different than the Powerbook I migrated from, Aperture lost the connections to thousands of originals. Looks like a huge project to get them reconnected again unless someone knows a utility or procedure in Aperture which will do it. The Manage Referenced Files looks confusing and seems to need me to do a one to one file selection. That would takes months for me to do.

Sorry I thought I’d replied to this already. The Manage Referenced Files dialog should only require you to point to a single image, and it will find the rest for you. Assuming the structure hasn’t changed (only the name of your hard drive), that’s all you should need to do. Is that not the case?

What I did was rename the hard drive to the old name after closing Aperture and then restarting. Everything is now re-connected again. Whew!
