Should images be saved as tiff? If so, how is this accomplished?

Is it always better to make a duplicate before manipulating them?

THANKS for your help.

Judith,

Aperture allows you to export an image in any format you like (including TIF, PSD, JPEG, PNG, etc), and what format you choose depends on where the image is going. What are you trying to accomplish?

As far as the how, just select the images and choose menu File > Export > Version… and choose from a preset (or create your own).

As far as duplicating before editing, that’s not necessary. No changes you make in Aperture are applied to the master file, so you can always remove any edits you’ve made. If you want to compare the adjusted one to the original, just tap the M key at any time to reveal the Master file. Tap it again to go back.

It sounds like you’re quite new to Aperture… I’d recommend you have a look at my “In-Depth Getting Started with Aperture 3” eBook as that will help you grasp the basics and get you off on a really good start with the application.

cheers
