Export portrait images to a specific size with fill #1

I need to resize an image on export to fit within specific dimensions.

I created an ‘export preset’ to match the correct size (which is a landscape size), and it works perfectly for landscape format images.

What I’d like to do for portrait format images, though, is still export an image with same dimensions, but fill the ‘empty space’ with a solid color.

As a work around, I export the images from Aperture with a “fit within” dimension, went to Photoshop, created a blank image using the same “fit within” dimensions, copied the portrait format image and pasted it along the right side of the blank image, and then saved the resulting image.

Is there a way to have Aperture do this for me automatically?

Andrew,

Unfortunately there’s no way (that I know of at least) to do what you’re asking entirely in Aperture. You may be able to create a custom script using Automator though, or since you already have Photoshop, at minimum create a script/droplet in PS that will do what you’re already doing, but automatically. So you would export as you’re doing now, then drop the images on a script or droplet/applet, and save some time in the end.
