I have a 47” 1080p HD TV and a Home-Theater-in-a-Box unit that has a DVD/Blueray player. I do not have an Apple TV or broadband (I live in an area with no cable TV, FiOS, or DSL; just Verizon mobile internet). I have lots of 10 MB images.
I enjoy watching my Aperture 3 slideshows on my iPad (via iTunes).
What is an easy way to watch the slideshows on my TV?
I searched and could not this on ApertureExpert.com. If this is addressed here or in one of Joseph's ebooks I'd like to know where.
Thanks, Roger
Roger,
It depends on the computer you own.
If you have a MacBook Pro, you can buy an Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, and just make your TV a second screen. Then you could make a slide show in Aperture, or display the pictures any number of ways.
If that’s not an option, your DVD player may be able to read photos off a data CD or DVD, so you could just burn JPGs on a disk and pop it in your player.
If you have an iPod or iPhone or iPad, you could get an iPhone to HDMI adapter and play photos from there.
Just a few suggestions… I’m sure there’s more ways I’m not thinking of, too!

Thanks, Joseph.
I ordered a mini DP to HDMI adapter today.
I have a 2009 vintage MacBookPro15 inch that should hook up to the TV.
I’ll post again when I get it.
Roger
I got the Moshi miniDP to HDMI adapter yesterday. I plugged it in to my MBP (2009 vintage) 15 inch, then an HDMI into the adapter, then into the TV.
I could look at my images on the TV and they look pretty good.
I could NOT watch a slide show!
I was going to report this yesterday but didn’t get around to it. This morning I read a Forum Posting regarding the revolving beachball of death by Todd. A response from Thomas suggested taking note of the Aperture Preferences before trashing the aperture.plist files. I did this and saw that there is a Preference that lets me select the primary or secondary display for use when viewing slideshows. Ah ha!
After I changed the preference to “Secondary” my slideshow displays on my TV screen.
I don’t get the music sound-track to play but I was expecting that my pre-mid-2010 MacBook Pro wouldn’t do that.
Should I write-up the whole procedure for viewing slideshows on a TV and then posting it on ApertureExpert.com’s “USER TIPS”? Or, is this something that everyone else has figured out?
Roger
Roger,
Glad to hear the cable worked, and that you sorted out the preference issue!
By all means feel free to write up a mini tutorial. Users of all experience levels come here, and I’m sure your perspective — including some of the steps that tripped you up along the way — would be useful to many readers!
Thanks,
