Play/Pause key - Aperture or iTunes? BOTH! #1

OK, this could be a deal breaker.

The Play/Pause key (etc.) on my shiny Apple keyboard force a slideshow to start/pause in Aperture.

They are supposed to Play/Pause my music in iTunes. That's one of the best parts of owning a Mac…keyboard control of iTunes no matter what application I'm using.

What's going on? Is it possible to disable this crazy conflicting behavior in Aperture?

Thanks!

There are also lots of what I call applets that let you control iTunes from your menu bar. I personally use YouControl: Tunes at http://www.yousoftware.com/tunes/. Just to name one of many.

ksignorini,

I don’t know what you mean by “deal-breaker”… as in, if you can’t fix this you’ll go back to a PC? Sounds drastic ;-)

The play/pause buttons have in fact been relegated to playing and controlling slide shows in Aperture. I think it has to do with giving control to the remote control (that simple few-button remote that used to come with all Macs, but now you have to buy separately), so that you can run a slideshow or presentation from Aperture while on stage or from the living room couch. As far as I know, there’s no way to override this, sorry.

Fortunately command-tab is a quick keyboard shortcut to switch from Aperture to anything else, where you’ll have your iTunes playback controls available, then back to Aperture again.
