I've been successfully changing dates on my slide scans using “Metadata–>Adjust date & time,” including the “Also change master file.”
Now, I'm seeing the following error when attempting to change the date on any of my photos:
“Unable to adjust master file”
“Aperture was not able to adjust the date and time of the master file 'IMG_0008.jpg' because it has a format that does not permit date modification.”
Any idea what's needed to resolve this?
There’s a discussion thread on this subject on the Apple Support Communities at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15801449#15801449
Note that that discussion states that the error only occurs if you opt to change the date on JPG masters. If you don’t opt to change the masters too, supposedly no error.
Lee,
Are the Master files on an external hard drive? It this a post-Lion problem, or post Aperture 3.1.3 problem, or ?
Have you tried repairing permissions for the Library, and if the masters are on an external drive, is “ignore permissions” turned on for that volume?

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for the response… The master files are all in the local library. This seems like a post-Lion problem, as I changed dates this way prior to Lion, and post- Aperture 3.1.3.
I’ve tried repairing permissions for the library (and also using Disk Utility), and repairing the library database. But these steps didn’t help.
Lee,
I just tested this as you described and I’m seeing the same error. Thanks for the head’s up.

I too am seeing this issue. If anyone solves this, please be sure to post.
