I have a referenced A3 library and will be moving to a Mac Mini with an SSD and a HD. I want to put the library in the SSD for speed and the masters in the HD. Usually this would involve relocating thousands of masters. What if I consolidated the library, moved the whole thing over, then converted it to a referenced library? Would that make the move easier?
Also, how can I determine how large the Pictures folder is?
Grace,
In theory that’s a fine idea, and actually a good way to ensure that you don’t have any broken links. However, unless your entire library, masters included, would fit on the SSD, you may not be able to pull it off that way.
Hmm, I suppose you could do this…
1. consolidate
2. copy to the Mini HD
3. go back to referenced, putting them on the same HD
4. move the now much-smaller library to the SSD
5. Reconnect masters
That could work… although at that point it’s probably easier to just copy the two pieces (library and master) to where they belong and reconnect.
