Hi
I know I'm behind here, but on Joseph's recommendation I upgraded to Snow leopard in prep for Lion. All went well until I tried to open aperture. I'd done all the updates, reboots and all other instructions that came my way. It still wouldn't open up.
I looked at the aperture info option via Finder. There I ticked the open with 32 bit option and low and behold aperture works and it flies along. Brushes, cropping all work very well.

Now the questions:
Why won't aperture work without ticking the 32bit box.
Why isn't there a 64bit option.
Will I need 64bit when I go to Lion or will it still be 32bit.

Thanks very much.
PS. I did look at other posts regarding 32 & 64bit but couldn't garner the answers to my questions.

Paul.

Why isn’t there a 64-bit option?

Unchecking the 32-bit option make it 64-bit.

Why won’t Aperture work in 64-bit

That must be a bug of some sort. Try throwing away your Aperture preference file. (can be found in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist)

Will I need 64bit when I go to Lion or will it still be 32bit.

No, it’s only useful when you have more then 4GB of RAM.

Paul,

Is it crashing on launch in 64-bit mode with a crash report, or just bouncing in the dock and then nothing, or ??

Definitely should launch no problem. My MacBook Air is lower specced than your laptop and it’s running Aperture 3.2.1 and Lion no problem.

Joseph, David and Rutger,
Apologies for not keeping you guys updated.
After letting things settle down after all the updates I also updated the vault within Aperture 3 and run it with the 32 bit box ticked. After a day or two I unchecked the box and started Aperture. The program opened rather quickly and seems to be running well. So at the moment all seems good.
Joseph, the problem that I initially had was Aperture not opening at all and crash reports were being generated. I have to assume something went haywire after upgrading to Snow Leopard. I’m going to let everything settle for a few weeks before going over to Lion.

Again, sorry for not updating the forum.

Paul
