New Feature? #1

I opened Aperture today for the first time since the recent updates.

It paused after the splash screen and advised me that it had found a video codec that would cause reliability problems in Aperture and suggested I remove it before continuing. It gave me the option to open it in Finder and remove it.

Since that codec must have been there ages as I have never knowingly installed one myself, I can only assume that this ability to identify and suggest removal of such things is part of the recent updates.

Anyone else seen it - or anything else new?

Marcus,

Interesting — what was the codec? You could be right; we’ve had a hell of a time tracking down codecs that were causing problems in the past. This could very well be a new feature.

There is a particular codec that will render the video player inoperable. Aperture identified the codec and is telling you to remove it.

It’s more of a compatibility warning than a feature.

Hi Thomas

Yes, I know - my point was that the codec has been there ages and Aperture has been there since V1 too - yet only after the recent updates did it ever issue the warning.

They must have recently decided to make it look for that codec and tell us?

Joseph - I forget but it was the one that many support forums tell you to seek and destroy!

I just deleted it. There’s no video on my system and nor is their likely to be, so I shan’t miss whatever it was it was supposed to do.
