Look at the images from these posts by Ben Jaobsen on POTN and how he used LR landscape presets to get these stunning images… (he does this on a iMac by the way)

He shows the original SOOC image and the one after applying the preset.

and his explaination at:

Im sure Aperture has a preset that does this kind of quality… Im just not sure where to find them as I only see a few of the new textures posted here in the AE store. Im new at this so was wondering if someone could guide me to the best location or if its on this site?

Mike,

(FYI the second link doesn’t go anywhere… but I think I see what you were referring to farther down on the original page?)

To me that looks like a hyper saturation (over saturated, IMHO) and a dropped black point. Pretty simple. In Aperture the default Adjustment preset “Quick Fix > Auto Enhance” might give a similar look, but you’d probably need to saturate it a bit more to really get what he’s got there.

Of my presets, if you look at the “Looks” presets, some are quite saturated, but I don’t tend to go that high. Of course the beauty of the presets is that you can use one as a starting point, tweak it, then save it as your own!

If you scroll down the page in the preset store you’ll see just under the bundle offer, two “looks” packs.

Thanks Joseph. I see what you mean in the looks presets. Slowly learning! However, I just got the 5D3, with 22mp, so most of the presets in there wont work according to the info?

What’s the pixel width × height on the 5D Mk III?

The presets that have textures are limited by resolution. The grain textures in some of the looks are 21MP, the textures presets are I think 24MP so those will work, and the film ones are 21MP. But tell me the exact resolution of your files please?

Effective Pixels: 22.3 Megapixels
Other Resolutions: 22.1 MP: 5760 x 3840

Mike,

Then you’ll be mostly OK. The texture size in the 21MP files is 5616 × 3744, so not much smaller than what you have. What that means is if you use a preset that has a 21MP texture, then you’ll have (5760 − 5616 = 144 ÷ 2 =) 72 pixels on the wide sides and (3840 − 3744 = 96 ÷ 2 =) 48 pixels on the short sides that won’t be covered by the texture — so you’d have to crop that out.

Keep in mind this is ONLY for the “film” pack, and a few of the “look” presets that use grain textures in them. The “textures” pack are all larger (24MP I believe) and the rest have no masks at all.
