Howdy,
I really hope someone can help.
For some reason, when I restored from a Vault I lost 50% of my masters despite the vault saying that it was 100% backed up and never having referenced any files.
Anyway, that 50% of files (roughly 10,000) thankfully still exists as Previews.
I have created a smart folder in aperture that shows all of the offline images and have been desperately looking for a way to just select them all and export the previews so I can then delete them from apertue and re- import the JPEG previews. I have tried looking through the package contents of the aperture library but distinguishing the disconnected and the connected is impossible.
Does anyone know of a method for extracting the JPEG previews of just the offline photos?
I am really at a loss here and would really appreciate any guidance.
Many Thanks.
Brad
Brad,
This is terrible news. I’ll get to answering your question, but do you still have the original Vault? Is the size of it comparable to what your original Library was? You can restore a vault by simply changing the file extension (see this article: Aperture Vault’s File Extension Secret and hopefully that will restore everything properly.
Also have you tried searching in the package for the missing Original (RAW) files?
Finally to actually do what you want, if these are actual Preview files then you can just drag them out of Aperture to the desktop. So you should be able to select all or batches of files and drag them into a folder outside of Aperture to capture those preview files.

Hello Joseph!
Yes a bit of a disaster!
The vault was smaller than the library was!
The previews (when looking in package contents at an individual folder) are there and are large JPEGS but it wont let me drag them out of the aperture library.
The problem is distinguishing which files are ok and which ones only have the previews.
Im totally stuck!
Hey Brad. I believe dragging the previews to a Folder on your desktop or elsewhere in Finder will copy the preview files. My question for you is, how did you create the smart folder to show all unconnected files?
Thanks!
