Aperture doesn't want to open my library #1

Hi, My Aperture recently gave up and wouldn't open again (version 3.0.3).

Luckily I had saved everything on an external memory disc. I then downloaded the same version of Aperture and updated it to the 3.2 version with my software update on mac. Despite numerous efforts, the same message pops up every time I want to open Aperture. “your library could not be imported because it is from an out of date version of Aperture 3. Please update the library to the latest version of Aperture 3 and try again” But my Aperture won't open so can't try that.

Even if I reinstall the 3.0.3 version it does the same thing while my aperture library is as well a 3.0.3 version…

Listed below are the things I already tried:

1. I tried the simple way, just setting my ancient library as the one to be used by Aperture. Message pops up.

2. I tried to import the library as a new one going through: File > Switch to Library > Other/New. This is not working, message pops up.

3. I created a new, empty library and copy-pasted every file from my ancient aperture library in the same documents (sub-files) of the new library. Aperture opens but shows no pictures. This was a cowboy-move but no result there…

4. Opening Aperture holding the option key down and selecting the library I want. If I select my ancient library, it tells me to restart Aperture and the message of the outdated library pops up again.

I could eventually just import all the rough pictures again but I would loose all my work so I’ll keep that as a last option.

I hope you’ll be able to help me!!! Looking forward to your reply!

Thx!

Colja

Try holding down COMMAND-OPTION when you double-click the Aperture Library.

Tried that as well but it’s not working either. I’m losing faith! I hope there is an option that could save all i’ve done in the past…Thanks for the reply!

Until Walter can respond you could do some overall system maintenance that might help overall. forgive me if this is too obvious or already thought of. Disk utilities to do a permissions repair on the hard drive/s Also boot up the machine in Safty Mode by holding the shift key while starting till you see the progress bar. After that boots and you log in you have to restart again in order to use AP but it helps clear up a few things. cheers

Thanks a lot for the input. I managed to copy all the pictures manually into the new library. Lost all work done on the pictures but at least I have them again and I can continue… all the best!

Have you updated to the latest version of Aperture? If not, I recommend doing so. I’m sure plenty of bugs were fixed since your version.

Save the problem library. Maybe set up an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar and let them see it. They might have some options for you, or can report the issue to Apple on your behalf. If you copy the library to an external drive then they might copy it from you to provide to Apple to examine.

There must be a way to make Aperture update the 3.0.3 Library. Did you double-click on the Library itself with the new version of Aperture? Did it not give you the option then of upgrading the Library?
