Okay Joseph, I'm going to put you on the spot a little.
I have been attending the webinars for both OnOne's upcoming PhotoPerfect 7 and Nik's software. I think that you use some of each, and I like both of them from the webinars. In fact, I have been thinking about purchasing both of them, since there are some good discounts, from the site and others.
Money aside, do you think that they are different enough to get use out of both? Or would you vote for one over the other?
Just curious.
I have been using both for some time. I prefer Nik personally, for OnOne, I user perfect resize (previously genuine fractals) to print high res large prints and love it.
I feel that Nik gives me better control and I am more comfortable with the filters than OnOne…but may just be a personal preference thing. They both do great things. I do prefer photomatix more than Nik’s HDR efex however when combining exposures for HDR work.

The only software I’ve used extensively from onOne is Perfect Resize, so I haven’t had any overlap in the two systems. I can’t speak to any of their creative effects, or how they compare to Nik.

I’ve been using the Nik stuff more or less since it was first available.
I have long ago decided that I don’t need Photoshop, even as a working photographer, because Nik does 95% of what I would do in PS, just quicker and more simply.
The remaining 5% that needs PS, it’s cheaper for me to outsource to someone who spends all day using it and knows it inside out. They get stuff done faster and better than I ever would, and I get the time back to use elsewhere.

I have both the Perfect Suite 6 from On-One but I’m not sure if I will upgrade. I just find On-One’s stuff to mentally intensive (too many tools, brushes, boxes to click on, sliders etc. etc. ) for 58 year old technically challenged guy. Nik Plug-ins on the other hand, I find very user friendly and when used with PS for brushing effects in and out, are great. Nik plug-ins seem to work very well with Aperture.
I'd much rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
