I'm trying to organize all my Projects into Folders as suggested in Aperture tutorial #2. Folders titled by years. I've set 5 folders for the past 5 years. When I drag a project to the various years Projects will not drop into folders. I've tried numerous times. Please, I need help…

Rick,

First thing is to ensure that this is a problem unique to your Library and not something else, then we can go about fixing it.

To test that, create a new Library. Go to menu File > Switch to Library > Other/New… and create a new one. Just put it on the desktop, call it “test” or something, and go.

Then create a folder, and a project, and see if you can drag the project into the folder.

Assuming that does work, then there’s an issue with your main Library database. Go back to your Library (go to the Switch to Library menu and choose your main one) and then quit Aperture. Launch Aperture again and run the repair, which you can learn how to do (and the various options you have) in the FAQ. Read the article “how do I repair or rebuild…”.

If however in the new Library you still can’t do it, let me know.

Created a new Library as you recommended. Created a folder and Project. That worked. Went back and launched Aperture again. Read the article to repair and rebuild Aperture. When I launched Aperture, I held down the command and option keys and the dialog box will not appear. I’ve tried this numerous times and it will not pop up.

Rick,

Hm, I’ve never heard that before. The only thing I can think of is that you’re waiting too long to press the keys? Try holding them while you click Aperture in the dock to launch it, and don’t let go until you see the dialog (or the Library window opens, at which point it’s too late). And just to be certain, this is the command key, flanking the space bar, and the option/alt key, just next to that.

Was able to go to Aperture Library First aid box. Ran the repair database, still didn’t work, ran the rebuild database, still doesn’t work. Anything else? Is there an incorrect setting? I really appreciate your help. Organizing Aperture has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.

Rick,

Give me a day and I’ll get back to you again. I have another step you can try but it’s pretty extreme. I want to check on something else first.

Oh did you do the permissions repair? If not do that and let me know before I proceed.

Rick,

This is going to sound stupid, but just humor me… read this post “I can’t move my projects into a folder?” and please ensure you’re not trying to do what user d-light suggested in here.

Digging through the forums, last times this came up it was either fixed by a database repair or it was just user error.
