Deleting the JPEG from a RAW+JPG pair #1

I found this thread about this but it is over two years old. It says the only way is to delete the JPG in Finder which works although Aperture will always show a missing file icon on the photos.

Has anything changed in Aperture since then to allow an easy way to delete the JPG from a RAW+JPG pair?

My understanding is that once a RAW+JPEG pair is imported, then they are permanently bonded. Personally, I would not muck around deleting files in the library via finder. It sounds like a disaster in the making.

You can choose to import JPEG and RAW separately if you choose.

Personally, I prefer to have both JPEG + RAW available. Since you can choose which to use as your master… it doesn’t over-complicate the display.

Thanks Jim. I agree about not deleting the JPGs in Finder.

I don’t shoot Raw+JPEG any more, I just did so for a while when I first started using Raw so I’ve got about 1000 images that are both and was looking to reclaim the disk space.

I choose to shoot JPEG+RAW, and I import them as a pair with JPEG as master. I find that JPEG out of the camera looks better than RAW without further processing.

Once I decide on a set of photos that I want to use for some purpose (ex: a book)… I’ll switch to RAW as master for just those photos and apply adjustments.

I guess I feel it gives me a “better” overall look for “everything unadjusted”, while still allowing me to easily use RAW adjustments for the pictures I care to adjust. I think this was a tip that I received from Boyer.
