Keeping my fingers crossed.
But still have an issue. When creating the vault I receive a message saying 2227 managed lies will be included in this vault. 114413 referenced files will not be included. These need to be backed up separately.
I'm confused.
Katy: while I realize web photostream does not hold a hundred thousand images–just for a little test–delete 5 images from web photostream and see if the number of referenced files goes dwn by 5. Then let the gang know.
Katy: I skipped a step. This will be more clear. Delete some web photo stream images. Then RUN VAULT again. See if vault tells you the number of referenced images/ files is reduced by the same number of images you deleted.

Katy do you still have 2227 managed and 114413 referenced? Was that an accurate amount or were you thinking all images were reference. Have you made a smarrt album to show you all managed images? If you do you decide to “Relocate masters if you like. If not just create the Vault…. or maybe you did. where are you at with this lingering problem David

David, I am currently trying ( yet again ) to create a vault. I moved the pfile and am hoping that may do the trick. If not, I am thinking I might not have enough space and that is a contributing factor to my renewed interest in the drobo 5d.
I’m about 4 hours in, so it will be a while before I see if it works
I thought all of my files were referenced so I was surprised that it says I have 2227 managed. When this latest attempt at a vault is done I will make a smart album and figure it out.

Even if all your originals are referenced, if you tell Aperture to create a new original (e.g. by using an external editor or plug-in) it will default to creating it as managed. You’d need to manually relocate originals after to keep everything referenced.
So, for example, if you have an image you want to send to a Topaz plugin or Nik plugin, Aperture creates a new original and sends it to the plugin. But that original is managed unless you change it later.
Or if you sync to Facebook, I believe the synced Facebook images are managed.

Interesting, FB could account for some of the images. I’ll know more when I create a smart album but I suspect that FB will explain some of it, thx. Katy
