I apologize if I am beating dead horse on this subject. I have seen post regarding Nik plug-ins and getting a black screen in viewer mode when returning. I do not have to use a plug in to cause this, it opens this way  fro all pics

I just upgraded to mavericks, why?, I am not sure at this point.

I can see my thumbnails in browser

I can see a photo in split view for a fraction of a second before going black

I cannot see a picture  in viewer mode at all.

In both Viewer and Split View I can see the choosen picture when using the loupe.

I tried rebuilding/ repairing  permissions, data base, library

Nothing is working and I am getting hugely frustrated as I went through this compatibility issue with the Mountain Lion upgrade and swore I would never do that again, but here I am.

Has anyone found a fix to this issue???

Thanks

Jon

Have you downloaded/installed the latest version of the Nik suite? The most recent update addresses this.

Yes, I did. I also tried moving the plist files to the desk top. It’s very strange, but may force me back to Mountian Lion and Aperture 3.4 if I can’t find a fix. The mavericks Upgrade also screwed with my Qtime Player and now have to use old version to watch what was previously viewable MP4 files

Agreed, Mavericks seems a serious problem for Aperture users. I can only hope that Apple is going to sort out these issues soon!

#nofilter before anyone knew what it meant.

I used “Clean My Mac” and trashed Aperture 3.5. Then reloaded a fresh version from the App store. Seems to have fixed the problem with Aperture at the moment, but there are still far too many other bugs with Mavericks,  Preview, Mail, photoshop CS6, memory bleeding , just the things I have found so far . I have never seen so many beach balls of death on my mac before.

I am going back to Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4 as everything was working perfectly up till the upgrade. Someday when Aperture has an upgrade worth all the hassles, I will again try to update the OSX  for the newest features, but for now, I will continue with Joseph’s training as it is the best out there on Aperture and still relevant  to 3.4 and my workflow

This is rather strange.  I’m have been using Mavericks, Aperture, and the nik plug in since Mavericks first came out, and haven’t noticed any problems.  Are you using MacOSX  10.9.2, Aperture 3.5.1, and nik collections from google (latest version)?  Mine works without any issues. iMac 27”.

Mike, yes to all those.

Maybe the newest operating system just dozen’ like my iMac24” 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo.

I had gotten Aperture to work at the end but when using adjustments and working in CS6 I was constantly beach balling. Mail kept crashing, Newest version of Qiuck Time required video recoding to run my videos, preview crashed all the time. Maybe when I upgrade my iMac to the 27” all will work out.

Until then I am happily back in Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.4.5  ”Crash Free”

The only problem with that idea, Jon, is that Aperture 3.5.1, the version that Maverick’s requires, cannot be read by Aperture 3.4.5 in Mountain Lion.  I know that because I just returned from the Apple Store, where I dropped off my early 2013 MBPro Retina 2.8 GHZ w/512 GB SSD and 16 GB ram, due to the black screen issue happening repeatedly.  Though the hardware tests performed in many hours of phone calls to Apple Care indicated no problem, the computer crashed repeatedly when using Aperture and it did so when I was at the Apple Store.  The Geniuses said that Aperture 3.4.5 can’t open a library of images created by Aperture 3.5.1, which is what Maverick’s uses, so I have over 20,000 images that I’d need to reprocess if I return to Mountain Lion.  Think about the time that would require!

I’ve personally never used a more “bug filled” OS than Maverick’s and I regret the day I “downgraded” Mountain Lion to Maverick’s.  And now that Apple will no longer provide future support for Aperture we’re really buggered.

I don’t understand the logic at Apple these days.  They create an image editing program that is the most intuitive of any raw processing program I’m aware of, and design it in such a way that if you have an older computer running an earlier version of Aperture, along with an OS that you’ve kept because of hardware (such as a film scanner) that won’t run on a newer OS, you can’t look at files processed in the latest version of Aperture on your older computer.  Then they kill support for the program.

Who’s decision was this and what is he doing at Apple?  This is nuts!

Lawrence, sorry to hear about your issues in Maverick. I did go back to Aperture 3.4.5 and Mountain Lion. All has been well since. I use a referenced Library and had no problem rebuilding my smaller (than yours) Library.  Because I use a referenced system, I have been able to parallel Lightroom 5 with my Aperture as I learn Lightroom. Aperture is a much more intuitive program to use but I need to move on and develop a work flow based on what is here now and not wait to see what is offered down the road.

I will pull the plug on Aperture at the end of the year. I have learned a lot here on they site from Joseph that is still relavant in Lightroom.  If Joseph ever starts up a Lightroom site I will be first in line

Cheers

Jon
