Hoping someone’s had this same issue …I’m running Aperture 3.2.4 on a Mac Pro
I’m trying to merge two libraries on the same Mac (different drives). The libraries were duplicates at one time but have since changed - I’ve added photos to both of these libraries (unintentionally) to the point where both are different sizes and not true duplicates any longer. Trying to merge the two libraries back into one isn’t allowed as Aperture says it’s a duplicate “of the library currently running.”
I have been able to export an individual project as its own library then merge it into the same project in the other library but not everything all at once.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you try renaming one of them? I’m only guessing that might make a difference.

Hmmm…I didn’t see that one. I’ll give the “export/create new library” trick a go.

Unfortunately, no. I created a new library and named it “Consolidated,” just to keep things straight and apparently was able to import both libraries. The first library was the larger of the two and the second I merged with the first.
Only trouble is - they didn’t seem to actually merge. The size of “Consolidated” was identical to the larger of the two libraries after the two were supposedly merged together. It was obvious that there were images missing in “Consolidated” that were still in the smaller of the two merged libraries. So, this method doesn’t seem to work even if the merge “process” appears to work.
Just be sure there wasn’t an issue with merging a smaller library into a larger library - I gave the process another try by importing the smaller library first and then merging the larger library second. Again - the process appears to work but the images aren’t there and the library size matches that of the first library imported (in this case the smaller one).
So, effectively, while process goes through the motions Aperture still seems to not allow the merging of libraries that were once the same - at least on my system, anyway. I could try repairing permissions on the drives containing the libraries and see if that helps.
and have u try to repair the permission on the library before such process?
I repaired permissions on all the pertinent drives but I get the same result - no library merge. It goes through the process (very quickly) but the two libraries are definitely not merged.
I’m starting to run out of ideas.
They meant repair permissions on the library using Aperture Repair Permissions.

Ok, mission accomplished. It seems that in order to do this you must create new libraries and import your existing libraries into them first. After you’ve done this, then you can merge the newly created libraries together. It doesn’t work if you create one new library and attempt to import all of the other libraries into it.
The moral of this story seems to be “never move a library using the Finder. Always use the import/export option within Aperture.”
