Will Apple add the ability to edit in another program like we could in Aperture? If not, I think I need to use something else to organize my 100’s of thousands of photos :-/
I hope they add it. Or maybe they won’t because they will add the photo extensions capability discussed at last year’s World Wide Developer’s Conference.
Honestly, anybody who knows what they will do is under an NDA. The rest of us can only dream.
The word is that Macphun are working on extensions. It would be very odd if Apple did not allow this - that 30% cut on App Store / iTunes sales is the reason for the success in recent years….
I’m guessing extensions are closed now to limit the problems with the launch of Photos. I doubt Macphun would be working has hard as they say they are unless there was a plan to open extensions sometime soon.
With WWDC coming in June, Apple could have asked some developers to start developing Photos extension already.. This way, they could use the app to demo on stage.. Of course the developer would be under strict NDA if that was the case.
What is the Full Version???? And that’s great news! I use Onone but I don’t think they process RAW files? Whatever happens, I would like to stay with Apple’s Photos program so I can USE my photos! Access is a very big deal. I want simple and organized. Looks more like that’s what Photos does.
I asume they mean the version where Apple will have “unlocked” the extension/plug-in feature. It is my understanding that this is blocked in the first release of Photos. But we will know when it happens don’t we ;- ) ?
I am a user of On1 myself so I hope it will be soon.
i just started using Perfect Photo Suite from On1… got it shortly after I purchased Aperture… days before the announcement of its demise!… The photos I imported into PPS 9.5 are all Raw and retain their original content. I have been in contact with them as well. My original intent was to use Aperture for cataloguing and simple adjustments and then PPS for special effects and layers work (as in Photo Shop). The same could be done with a Lightroom/PPS combo.
I asked about the same handshake with PhotoApp and apparently that will be one of the features of the next release of PPS from On1… which is good news.
My original take on the PhotosApp was ugh… not for me… but after having viewed 80% (so far) of Joseph’s vids on PhotosApp I’m not so sure it can’t do most of what I want… as long as I can have the same sync features with PPS in the near future.
If you don't have a solution you don't have a problem!

I think i’ll stick with Photos if I can edit out of it. I want organized photos and access to them and then I’m good.

Me too. I like it so far. Extensions are a must. Some sort of star rating would be nice.
After inquiry I received an email from on1- software, that they are going to support this as soon as the “full Version” of Photos is released.
Can’t wait.
