My concerned in using Aurora is their business model of annual upgrades and upgrade charges. I originally purchased the first version in Nov 2015 and less than one year later in Sept 2016 they want me to purchase the upgrade. HDR is something I only use a couple times a year and I haven’t even used the first version before they want me to pay again less than a year later. Unless you use HDR all of the time, there are other alternatives that might be more price competitive.

Thanks for the peek at Aurora HDR 2017 Joseph. I always enjoy your “discovery” presentations of a new product and look forward to your in depth sessions on some of Aurora’s specific editing tools.
Question: do you shoot the majority of your photos bracketed or do you specifically shoot only those that you know will be edited in Aurora with 3 or more brackets. IMO that would be a tough call and I’m sure I’d miss a few opportunities. I see you can use a single photo in Aurora but can I assume 3 or more bracketed photos would be better?

I almost never shoot bracketed. I only do if I am shooting specifically for HDR or luminosity masking, or if the scene is so screwy and changing quickly and I want to be safe.
As far as using a single image, that's on my course list to compare a single to multiple images for an HDR output. I haven't tested it yet but will eventually, and will leave that to the end so I'm as familiar with the app as I'll get. I'd certainly expect a multiple image stack to be better, but I suppose it depends on the image. If your scene has 20 stops of dynamic range (call it –10 to +10) and your camera captures 10 stops, then a single image will only have 10 stops (–5 to +5). But if you have five photos bracketed two stops apart, then that'll get you from –9 to +9.
That said if the scene only has 5 stops of range to begin with, then all those extra shots won't do you any good.
Theoretically, at least ;-)
