Apple is famously secretive. I would suspect that we won’t know it is here until it arrives, and at that time, v3 will vanish from the Store to be replaced with v4.
Now, given that LR 4 is out, there is some theoretical pressure for Apple to upgrade Aperture, but they march to their own timetable. Until someone has a utility that will migrate all of my projects, 73,000 photos, keywords, et cetera over to LR without hassle, I’d suggest that the Aperture user is somewhat captive.
I don’t know how long it has been this way but it only seems to be available as a download from iTunes but if you go to Apple.com - Store - Software it is nowhere to be found, even under Photography, although the Adobe products are.
I hope so it will. I can confirm that in the Apple Store the boxed version of Aperture has been removed. Since Lightroom 4 is released and more and more Aperture users are investigating Lightroom, Applehave to move quickly in my opinion to release Aperture 4.
it does seem to be removed from their normal store. It is still available from their business store though at £59 for the download code for the app store:
Are you guys looking at international stores by chance?
I see it on the front page still under “Top Grossing”: [screenshot]
OK it’s not on the main page for “photography” apps, but it’s #2 in top grossing there. And of course if you search for it, it’s there.
I suppose that could be a clue however. It’s there, but it’s not being promoted.
By the way, disappearing from the shelves at Apple stores means nothing. We all know that Apple is not selling software on DVDs anymore, so anything left over was just clearing of old stock. The next OS won’t even be available on memory stick, like Lion was. If you want Mountain Lion, you have to download it. Which I’m sure will be a problem for many people, but like everything, it’s a numbers game.
Two references: 1. It is not in the www.apple.com/ca (Canadian) store. 2. It is in the Apps store via the “Apps Store” link in the toolbar. $79.99 today with Apple Canada My 2c is that Apple wants to get as far away from physical media as possible. Beyond convenience, why do I need the physical media when they have my serial number and I can re-download the application, or dig up the dmg file from a back-up of the original download?
Joseph, What you are showing is through the App Store. If you go to Apple.com and then to the ‘All Apple software’ section it is not there.
This may be just down to the way they are changing the business but I have only recently noticed Aperture has disappeared from Apple.com (also /uk)
If you search for Aperture, this is the result:
Your Apple Store search request had no matches. Please double check that all words are spelled correctly or try different (more general) keywords. For your assistance, we’ve provided links to commonly requested information below.
Find an Apple Retail Store near you. Buy music. Download iTunes. Get special deals on Apple Certified refurbished products.
Searching for iLife, iPhoto, etc also gets no results. But iWork is still there. I guess they’re finally running out of the boxes. I wonder who would have bought the box version for almost 3 times the price once Aperture went to the Mac App Store.
I still see it on the store… Aperture 3.

I hope the release of A4 does not have to wait for the release of mountain lion!
IF there is a A4 and they are waiting for Mountain Lion then there is not too long a wait now.
