Seems this problem is getting worse and worse. I often “round trip” images to Photoshop and back into Aperture. The tiffs or PSD files are corrupt. The images sometimes come in “unsupported format” or the colors are way off or the editing conducted in PS is not present. The unsupported file format shows up quite a bit when I merge or flatten layers in PS.
Anyone know what is going on?
Ken
I think there could be a number of reasons but let me give you one I know all too well. If in PS you are using masks that are saved to channels for purpose of reuse then AP can reject that file. If you have layers with masks put them in a group folder if want to keep the layers. Try reopening the unsupported file in PS and check to make sure you only have RGB R G B channels. Also don’t even think of LAB unless you convert back to rgb. Cheers DBM

I find this situation very perplexing … I have seen many references to this “corrupting” issue in recent months, here and other forums …
I currently have just over 2,000 images I have round-tripped to Ps in my 2013 library without issue … most .psd files and a few .TIFF files … not one single error in the bunch as far as I can tell …
I am curious why most users have no issues, yet some have problems … not that I am second guessing anyone … but the issue doesn’t appear to be universal …
I hope we can find a solution to the situation for you … unfortunately, I don’t have any advice to offer … other than there is a myriad of possibilities of layer structures possible in PS … along with an infinite possibilities in layer styes and adjustments … that could overwhelm Aperture … again, not sure of the source of the problem but could you share more on the exact perimeters of the images in question … like number of layers, types of layers, specific adjustment layers applies, etc. … this all could go a long way in seeking a solution …
I now believe I know why I was having some issues. DMmoore gave me the clue, I had several channels open that I was using for luminosity masking, but didn’t delete them before saving. Yes, I am embarrassed, since I should have known better.
FYI, at least on one image I that I saved that did have a layer mask, it did open in Aperture just fine.
Thanks again for the answer!!
Glad I could give a clue! Luminosity Masks sounds like you are exploring Dan Marguluis methods in PS. Very interesting indeed. His Sky Darkening actions in the PPW panel leaves extra channels that need to be deleted before going back to AP. Cheers dbm

Actually, been using Tony Kuyper’s luminosity masking/painting techniques. Oftentimes one can forget to delete unused channels.
