Hey Joseph,
I have a MacBook Pro with a 500GB internal SSD. To keep things efficient in Aperture, I have been in the habit of starting a new Aperture library every year.
With 4 libraries approaching varying from 50 to 100GB each (masters are kept on externals), I am needing to move my oldest libraries to external storage.
I'm guessing it won't be as fast but are there any issues that you're aware of when accessing libraries from an external drives?
thanks!
Joseph might have another view on this, but personally I don’t think you should run into any issues other than like you said, a drop in speed compared to SSD. I use an i-mac and all my libraries, vaults and raw back-up are on external drives and everything works smoothly.
I'd much rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
Great Craig - thanks for the feedback!
Bob,
Look at USB 3 drives (there’s a conversation here worth reading) if your Mac supports it. High speed at a low cost.
Don’t use USB 2 though. Too slow.
Firewire and Thunderbolt are of course great, too.
