I must be missing a basic concept here. I have created a new library with a single project and imported about 10 test images from my Canon DSLR. I then created an album within the project and a folder under that. I selected all the images in the root of the project and dragged them to the folder - there was a message about 10 versions being created. I then went to delete the images in the root of the project and got a message that I was going to be deleting masters that would affect the images in the folder.
I would like a process flow that goes like this
- Import images from camera
- Delete any that I don’t want
- Move images to the required album or folder.
How can I move the master/original images to another album/folder within the same project?
thanks
Scott
Images are contained in Projects. Folders help organize. Albums are virtual collections.

Thanks, I think I understand - I was using a project as the root, seems I need to use a folder and then a project beneath that folder - need to stop thinking of it like Finder or Windows Explorer :)
You can use a Project as a root if you like. I use FOLDERS for top level organization in the Projects and Albums sections of my Library, and I name them with ALL CAPS to remind me they are FOLDERS. I name Projects and Albums with first-letter capitals. Just my preferred naming convention. Your Library should use your preference.

You are missing the basic structure tree. Files import into your LIBRARY. They are either put in a new PROJECT or you designate them into an existing PROJECT during the import process. From a PROJECT you create an ALBUM of selected images or SMART ALBUM that sorts by parameters you set ( ranking, flags, date, place, etc). You can drag images from any PROJECT into any ALBUM. Images in an ALBUM are just place markers. You can drag the same image into as many ALBUMS as you wish. Does not really move the image or copy it. It won’t add to your library size to have an image in multiple ALBUMS. When you delete an image from an ALBUM you have not deleted it from the original PROJECT. You have just removed the place marker in that ALBUM. If you drag an image from one PROJECT to another PROJECT it will move the master to the new locationPROJECT. If you option/drag an image from one PROJECT to another PROJECT you will generate a copy of that file (a new master) and your library will expand. FOLDERS only contain projects or albums. You can not put individual files in a FOLDER. FOLDERS are used to organize albums projects, light tables, etc. Thats the basic structure.

Thanks Walter and John, I think I’m getting it.
