Odd Export Behaviour #1

I am having odd export behavior. I make some adjustments in Aperture, and then export a photo and I get artifacting. It has happened with exporting to a plug-in (exporting a tiff gave the exact same results) and exporting to jpeg. The jpeg isn't so bad but it happened to clients photos and very obvious.

The link has a sample. The left image is a screen shot of Apeture and the right is a crop from a plug-in. The two area's are from where I applied a dodge and the jacket is from a burn. The jacket doesn't show so well, but it is noticeable in the original. I have tried 3 things and all I can think of.

1. Rebuilt the thumb nail.
2. Rebuilt the library.
3. Export the project to a new library and went to a referenced workflow. (Previously managed.)

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure looks like artifacting from using to low of a jpg factor. So one question is are u using a 10 or 12 when saving the jpg? The blue dots on the white BG is strange, I can’t see it in the original so I’m assuming its part of the problem. What plugin are u using. Can you duplicated it on a new images. Can you drop off parts of the processing (Plugins) and export from AP and still get artifacting. Strange indeed sorry not much help.

Ryan,

We’ve seen that before but never did resolve it.

Read this thread (unfortunately the linked photos are no longer there but I do believe it was a very similar situation): http://www.apertureexpert.com/forum-user/post/1544558

And this one is similar but specific to printing; still worth looking at: http://www.apertureexpert.com/forum-user/post/1628954

Let’s go from there.

After a failed call to Apple and nothing on the net I still don’t know why it is happening! However I did find a few unusual things of 1/2 an hour of trial and error from the suggestions here. I may have found somewhat of a answer.

This is what I did & the results.

->Open the library on another machine and I see it…odd.

->I duplicated the image.
*Export to Portraiture…not problems.
*Lift & stamp the adjustments…still happened. (Expected/confirmed.) So it is in one of the bricks.

->Next I disabled all the bricks and and toggled them off then export.
*No problems, as expected, but confirmed not a corrupt file somewhere.
*I enabled the exposure brick and highlight hot & cold area’s and it is roughly in line with where I was seeing the artifacts. (See link at end.)
*I lowered the recovery slider, exported and it appeared fine.
*Turning on the rest of the bricks and it is still fine. So it is with-in the recovery slider I am sure.

An odd note about the hot area. After the export with the modified recovery slider the area is a inverse of the original image with just the exposure brick enabled. Truly odd…

Maybe this will help someone….

Hey Ryan,

So it’s a case of overdoing the Recovery slider. I know we’ve seen this at least one more time in here than the links I shared above, and I think that’s the key.

I’ve already shared those previous results with Apple but I’ll share this too.

If asked would you be willing to share this image in a Library so someone else can look at it?

I don’t think this is ENTIRELY the case. (80/90%) I had a chance to got back to a previous image that was also creating this weirdness. I can barely see it in the edited version (RAW) and the export version really emphasize it. (I think it might be a wrinkle in the backdrop that is showing in this case.) Some small part of the problem is the export.

Why would this show clearly in one computer and not another is still strange…

Time for a new soft box & strobe as this setup is wore out…then I won’t need the darn slider then! (Inconsistent flash some days…)

Feel free to grab these and use them however is best for the community!

Thanks again guys!
