I'm so frustrated. New Mac (with Lion and 4Gigs) and using Cannon EOS T1i. Never had an issue uploading thousands of photos in iPhoto. Last three upload attempts to Aperature have only uploaded 2/3's of photos, last night as case in point, tried uploading two new events of approx 300 each. Only 220 ish loaded in each event - the other 80 had error messages. So I went back and created two new events called “Error Files Captured” and got approx 50 of the 80 uploaded on the second attempt. Am only missing approx 60 photos now but what gives?????? Any help here would be so greatly appreciated!

I’ve seen this exact thing before, and never did figure out why.
Is there anything else that’s changed in your workflow other than iPhoto to Aperture? Do you have a different card reader, different SD or CF cards, different cables, etc.?
On import, are you importing managed or referenced? Are you renaming versions only, versions and masters, or not renaming at all? Are you adding metadata on import? (these are all options in the import dialog).
Finally, have you tried copying the photos to the desktop first, then importing them, instead of importing from the card directly?

I transferred all of my images in iPhoto into Aperture, months ago. Today I looked and there were “events” that were transferred from iPhoto that were no longer in Aperture. I had to reimport them. If Apple and Aperture are so good, why are we all having so many problems?

Joseph - Thanks for your review of my problem! I’ve tried uploading residual pics (those that did not import on original attempt) by using my card right in the computer vs. cord and “whallah”. They all xferred in - no problem. I’m shooting a bball game tonight so will attempt to put the card in directly and try. Maybe this is the answer and somehow Aperature isn’t recognizing the full connection between my camera and the cord??? (again absolutely NO issues in iphoto whatsoever for over 20K photos).
To answer your questions: Absolutely nothing different in work flow, Aperature settings are referenced, renaming versions not masters, not adding any metadata as of yet but may try in future. I have not tried copying to my desktop so that may be a next step if the card directly in the computer doesn’t work tonight. It kinda defeats the purpose though doesn’t it by adding another step? So be it if it works!!! Thanks again. I’ll post back this weekend after I attempt my next upload! tHANKS!

Uploaded 100% of my photos without incident tonight by putting my card into the computer vs. using the cord.
Soooo psyched to spend my time working with my photos then trying to track them down.
Very weird that the cord works to upload in iPhoto but not Aperature.
Guess at this point I really don’t care. Got a few 5 star shots tonight at the games!!!

Oh great, very glad to hear it’s been resolved!
I have to say though… I never, ever connect my camera directly… and yet I have had that same problem. So, if it comes up again, don’t be hugely surprised.
This is where I’d give you tips like “always reformat the card in-camera to clear it; don’t just erase the photos”, but I do that religiously myself and still manage to get the error you described sometimes.
I do believe that connecting to the camera isn’t as reliable, and I do know that connecting to a card reader is faster, so regardless, using a card reader is a better way to go.
And yeah, that iPhoto was fine but Aperture was not is definitely weird.
Anyway, pleased that it’s working for you now. And thank you for purchasing both ebooks, I certainly appreciate it!
