Hi there,
I'm using Aperture 3.2.2, Lion 10.7.2 on a Mac Pro and am experiencing a keywording “quirk” with PhotoStream. I have my keywords the way I want them, and keep the locked by default. I use PhotoStream to push pictures to an iPad so the family can more quickly enjoy photos I've been working on.
What I've noticed is once the sync happens, an “(Imported Keywords)” entry shows up at the top level of the keywords hierarchy. Within “(Imported Keywords)” are all the keywords from to the photo I just streamed. As an experiment, I unlocked keywords in the hopes the import would auto-merge….it was worse, with all keywords from the streamed photo dropped at the top level of the keyword hierarchy.
I am assuming this is expected behavior. Aperture is importing keywords from PhotoStream, in support of workflows where keywords may be assigned elsewhere. Although the “(Imported Keywords)” also don't appear incredibly useful. I tried selecting it in a filter in the Photos collection…zero photos were shown. And with my simple setup, it's just plain annoying…makes for busy work re-merging keywords to keep things tidy.
Are others seeing the same behavior? At this stage, my workaround is keeping keywords locked and ignoring “(Imported Keywords)”. Inelegant, but effective. I've found no options to turn off keyword importing from PhotoStream.
Thx,

Scott,
Thanks for bringing this up. From what you’ve said it sounds like your locking the keywords solution is best for now. I think that keywording is in need to some serious revamping in the next release of Aperture. Fingers crossed.
