When the programme provides totals could there be a mechanism to distinguish between raw and jpegs? I have some projects where the RAW & jpeg were imported, with the RAW being the master. I am presuming (I have not narrowed dates down to a specific project to see how it counts) that the Inspector will count both, and not the pair as one.

This is true, all images are counted. So a raw and a jpeg will actually count as 2.
THis is clearly not what we want it to do, so in the next version we’ll make sure that images with the exact same time of creation are not allowed. This will make sure only one of the images gets analyzed.
