Topaz plug-ins round-trip fails to open image file #1

Recently I purchased the Topaz bundle along with Fusion Express 2 so that I could access them through Aperture 3. The Topaz downloads and installs appeared normal.

In accessing any of the plug-ins from Aperture 3.4 using the Edit with plug in command, Fusion Express opens, and I can select the plug-in. The icon displays on the application dock, and then message occurs: “Cannot open image - Error Code 2004.  The selected plug-in and Fusion Express then terminate. I didn't find this Error 2004 described in search on the Topaz forum.

Using the same selected group of images, the plug-ins run without problem when accessed using Photoshop Elements 10 in stand-alone. Moreover, they run if the plug-in is accessed from Aperture 3 to PSE 10 as external editor to Topaz plug-in. The Aperture 3 to PSE 10 to Topaz plug-in back to Aperture 3 round trip works. Finally, they also run if accessed directly from Topaz PhotoFXlab program.

Topaz help advice was to confirm that my external editor settings were set properly. These are:
External editor : PSE 10
External Image format: TIFF 16 bit , 300 dpi.
External color space: none selected

I have deleted and reinstalled all of the Topaz software but no difference in results.
The same problem occurs when using my 13” MacBook Pro which is similarly configured.

The only thing I haven’t tried is to delete Aperture 3 and reinstall. I am reluctant to do that because I don’t know how to ensure that all of the image libraries and adjustments will be retained and accessible after the reinstall.

The fact that the plug-ins run on the same images in a variety of modes suggest that this is an Aperture problem.

I am reposting this to Topaz help as well as to Apple and Aperture forums. If this were a common problem, I would have expected to find it described and a solution, but so far, I’ve found none.

Any help appreciated.

I remember having this problem a while back with my Topaz Labs plugins and Fusion. I remember installing Fusion multiple times to get it to work. Making sure I used a program like AppCleaner (http://www.freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/) to make sure I get all of it then re-installing.

You know, if you’re using photoFXlab  you can set that up in the same way you would theoretically use Fusion as a Plugin Editor. At least the latest version of it can be. I know their earlier versions couldn’t. Often times it can be more useful to go that route if your workflow would make use of layers and masks, or if you plan to use multiple plugins, like DeNoise then Adjust.
