Aperture manages all of my 8,000-plus image files that are stored on both my Mac hard drive and a separate external hard drive. My problem is that I did not logically organize the image files on my external hard drive before I linked them with Aperture. Now I want to reorganize the image files on my external hard drive so that are logically arranged which means changing their locations into a new set of folders. <!–break–>My Question: will reorganizing my files on my external hard drive mean that I will have to re-associate all of these image files on the external hard drive with Aperture after I have reorganized it?
My suggestion is to use Aperture's “Relocate Originals” to do the reorganization. That way, with each move, Aperture already knows the new location of your originals. You won't ever disconnect Aperture from the originals.
If you do move things around at the Finder level, there is File > Locate Referenced Files to help you reconnect them (I've personally never used it, so I don't know what quirks it has).
