In Live Training 204, we start to dig into metadata. Specially we are comparing and exploring Star Ratings, Flags, Color Labels, Keywords and the configurable Views in both Grid and Loupe views. Fortunately this is a relatively easy transition from Aperture, other than a curious difference in the “rejected” image, and an exciting difference in Keywords that any heavy keyword user is bound to love.

Joseph,

I think the reason for the “strange” numbering of the keywords is it matches  the numeric keypad layout if you had an Extended keyboard i.e. calculator layout with 1 2 3 on the bottom (unlike phone layout which has 1 2 3 on the top).

cheers

John

I have been following Aperture Expert for a number of years and delighted Joseph has decided to run some tutorials on moving to Lightroom.

Like a number of Aperture users this is a huge step due to the fear of the unknown.

My only comment was is that you focused too much on star ratings, colours at the expense of Key wording. It would have been useful to know how Keyword multiple images and how to create a custom Metadata view like in Aperture. Also, how to include Keywords in the metadata  view particularly useful if you use solo mode or used to using Aperture.

Joseph’s delivery is always relaxed and entertaining, but a little preparation would have helped.

Sometimes I'm able to prepare more than others ;-)

I will go through your comments here and see what I can address in the next Live Training.

Joseph,  Another great session.  I’ve been working with Lr since I switched over almost 1.5 years ago and I always manage to learn something I didn’t know when seeing these Live Training sessions.  I just cleaned up my  Keywording List thanks to you!  Also, for Federico’s question on labeling the colors.  You can do that by going to Metadata>Color Label Set>Lightroom Default and click on the color name, i.e., Red, and change it to whatever you want as a name.  You can do this for each of the colors.  Then you will need to click on the Preset drop down menu and select “Save as a new preset” and rename that preset.  Then you have that option to select that preset as your color preset rather than Lr’s default and when you  select a photo and say use the shortcut  6 for red (or right click and you will see the color red but with your name), it will be colored red, and when you hover over the little red rectangle in the photo cell, your name for red will appear.  It is a multi-step process and not as smooth as Aperture’s but it is doable.  And you can create multiple ones for various uses, such as weddings, client shoots etc.

Cheers

Florian
